Wilson Staff Duo has a bunch of performance at a great price point.
The Wilson Staff Duo is a great ball for the beginner to intermediate player, offering many features of higher end balls without the higher price.
Rating: ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
The Good: Easy on the wallet and long off the tee
The Bad: Lacking feel around the green
Bottom Line: Strong contender for top value honors
Experience Level: Beginner, Intermediate
Construction: 2 piece ball
Compression: Low – 40
Pricing: Low – Moderate
The Wilson Staff Duo is a very innovative ball that has many features the higher end balls have but for a seriously good price. You won’t worry so much when you cold top this bad boy into the lake. Load up another and swing with confidence that you will still have money left over for a burger and fries at the 19th hole even if your round wasn’t quite “up to par”
Wilson claims this is the softest ball on the market but after playing with it a bit I would say there are a few others that feel like they have the same soft sound and feel off the club face. For me, it is a bit too soft sounding but that is personal preference.
The Wilson Staff Duo is a two piece ball and has a compression rating of 40, which is pretty much as low as it can get, half the compression of most golf balls. In 2013 it was awarded a silver medal in the Golf Digest Hot List Testing.
It seems to pop off the club face really well and gave us pretty good distance off the tee as well a bit of feel around the green. Don’t expect this ball to backup but the bounces and roll out seemed to be considerably less than some of its competitors.
Overall this is a great ball for beginners and intermediates who want a lot of bang for the buck. It has a great combination of distance and feel and is cheaper than comparable balls. Grab a dozen and thank me later.
