The TaylorMade Project (a) has turned out to be my new favorite ball. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I put it in play, after all the name “Project (a)” gave me the impression that it was some experimental ball that could explode if hit wrong.
I noticed right away that the feel was solid, not too soft but gave me confidence that I could spin it and control it around the green. And spin it I did. I was pulling the ball back a good 10-20 feet on most wedge shots to the green. It really depends on what type of player you are but I prefer to have some good check back and control with my wedges. I like to throw it in deep and watch it come back to me like a golden retriever after fetching a Frisbee. I like to know that when I dart a chip in at the pin that it’s gonna stop when I want it to.
Usually when you have a ball that generate so much spin you are sacrificing some distance but I noted no lack of distance, in fact I feel like I was hitting the ball much further off the tee with the big dog.
Unlike the more expensive TP5, this has only 3 layers and not 4 or 5. Perhaps that’s the magic number for me because I would take this ball over the TP5 any day of the week. (And I love the TP5). The Project (a) has a Soft Tech urethane cover just like on the TP balls so feel is great.
I really like the look of TaylorMade balls, and this one also is my favorite looks wise. I like the PROJECT (a) stamping for lining up putts and I love the double digit numbering.
All in all, this one is a winner. It is one you MUST try and then please be sure to email me and let me know how much you love it and how amazing I am for recommending it. Grab a dozen here!
