I really liked playing the original Chrome Soft throughout the last few years, it had great feel and trajectory and reminded me very much of a ProV1 (which is my go to ball). The compression of the original started at 65 then was upped to 75 in 2016. Now in 2017 Callaway has added the Callaway Chrome Soft X to the family which boasts a compression of 90 which suits a swing speed of over 90 much better.
They claim the Callaway Chrome Soft X has increased distance with the “game-changing” Dual SoftFast Core (as seen on left). They are engineered to promote faster ball speed and distance off long clubs and more control with the shorties.
The ultra-thin urethane cover gives it a nice soft feel with a lot of spin for maximum greenside control. It has a really solid feel and nice sound with the driver and irons.
I was impressed with this ball and felt like it suited my game better than the original Chrome Soft. The trajectory was a bit higher and gave me more carry with the driver or fairway woods. I get excited when I am in the desert looking for my ball and stumble into one of these, along with finding my ball of course.
